26 Apr Can Chiropractic Help Nervous Patients?
Chiropractic is not all about back and neck cracking, in fact it’s mostly NOT about neck and back cracking at all. The “crack” you hear is not what some might believe to be as bones cracking, but is in fact an adjustment which releases gas to allow the joints to move more easily. Whilst some people love it, other more nervous patients (such as our receptionist Hannah) perhaps do not like to have that type of an adjustment. This type of adjustment is not necessary to enjoy a beneficial treatment, there are all sorts of other ways our chiropractors can help – such as use of an activator gun which is a low force method to increase spinal mobility. An activator gun does the same thing, but in a slightly different way.
Manual manipulation is commonly used during a treatment which can be used with gentle or firm pressure or anywhere in between, depending on the patient. Another adjustment that Hannah experienced recently was using the Speeder Board Technique. The cracking wasn’t for Hannah and Hannah told Brodie (the chiro treating her) that she was uneasy about ‘cracking’ during her treatment. Brodie was very reassuring and explained what was going to happen before she started. Brodie then positioned Hannah into place, laying on her side, the Speeder Board was placed underneath her head, then Brodie performed a very quick adjustment. For Hannah it was far more preferable to the “crack”, and she said that the tension in her jaw felt immediately reduced.
