What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic, meaning ‘to heal by hand’ is a regulated primary healthcare profession. Chiropractors are trained to diagnose, treat, manage and prevent disorders of the musculoskeletal system (bones, joints, and muscles) as well as the effects these disorders (such as lower back pain, neck pain, back pain) can have on the nervous system and a person’s general health. When they assess patients they take their entire physical, emotional and social wellbeing into account.

Based in Balham, Chiropractic By Hand has a holistic approach, looking not only at pain and symptoms but also how we can improve your overall health and quality of life.

Chiropractic Care

Spinal joint dysfunction can interfere with the nervous system. The nervous system controls and regulates every single cell in your body, so any interference can have a negative effect on health or performance, possibly leading to lower back pain, neck pain or back pain – amongst others. A Chiropractor will aim to address your spinal joint dysfunction so that your body can function properly and heal. The benefits of chiropractic care can extend well beyond the relief of pain however, and can significantly enhance your overall level of health in terms of flexibility, posture, energy and general comfort.

Techniques

Chiropractors use a range of techniques, with an emphasis on manipulation of the spine called ‘adjustments’. As our approach at Chiropractic by Hand is a holistic one, we take your whole body into account, not just your symptoms. Treatments can include soft tissue work, adjustments, craniosacral therapy, massage, acupuncture (dry needling), and advice on exercise, diet and nutrition. We may also teach you exercises intended to help you recover and prevent recurring symptoms. Our chiropractors get to know our clients and enjoy providing truly personal care. Take a look at our client testimonials to hear what our clients think about us.

If you are unsure if chiropractic is for you please get in touch and we will be happy to talk to you about the treatment.
