Polly’s experiences of pregnancy, birth & beyond

It’s been nearly 6 months since her baby JJ came in to this world, and Polly is now back at work. This is a summary of Polly’s experience of pregnancy, birth and her post-natal journey. Polly had regular adjustments with Lauren & Brodie before and during her pregnancy.  Please do remember though, that all of us are different so this is just Polly’s experience, which now that she’s back in Clinic she wanted to share.

During pregnancy
As pregnancies go, Polly’s was very comfortable – she slept better during pregnancy than she did before, even during later pregnancy where many women can experience pain – Polly didn’t. She stayed active, walking most days, even during labour she managed a 30 mins walk! Back pain just wasn’t an issue at all.

The birth
Polly ended up having a lengthy labour which she managed well at home, with no pain relief for the most part. She made use of the birth pool, the birthing ball, she did “spinning babies” exercises & her partner assisted her with positional exercises – forward leaning inversion and Rebozo. The plan was a home birth, but due to a drop in her baby’s heart rate at the last minute, she delivered her healthy baby boy in hospital.

Baby JJ
Polly first adjusted baby JJ when he was 12 hours old. He was an instrument-assisted birth so as you can imagine he was a bit tense! The Chiropractic team at CBH have been very lucky to have the pleasure of giving regular adjustments to the gorgeous little man and he just loves all the attention of course!

Post-natally
Post-natally Polly recovered better than she could have anticipated. She doesn’t yet feel as strong as she once did, but she’s working on that! Polly saw a pelvic health physio during pregnancy & then post-natally. At 7 weeks pregnant Polly wanted to strengthen & optimise the functioning of her pelvic floor, and was given advice on how she could help herself during pregnancy & also what she could do to help the pelvic floor get back to normal as quickly as possible post-natally.

Polly is continuing to have regular adjustments specific to post-natal changes. She had her 6 week check back in October and saw her pelvic health physio who said she could start exercising again – gentle post-natal yoga & strengthening exercises. Not yet back to running but she covers a fair distance walking a lot with the pram!

Polly is now working twice a week on a Tuesday & Thursday and she’s seeing pregnant and post-natal women and babies and children. She’s loving being back, and has gained so much insight from her own experiences which is helping to guide her professionally. Polly has always had an amazingly caring and warm approach with her patients, she now had empathy for how they might be feeling having been through her own journey of bringing little JJ into the world.

The pelvic health physio Polly saw was Gemma Pilkington of GP Physio. Gemma can be reached on Mobile: 07773 716 505 / Email: [email protected]
