Amelia’s Road to Chiropractic

I recently had my 1 year anniversary of working at CBH! As some of you may know I am also currently in my second year of chiropractic school at London South Bank University. I thought I would tell you a little bit about myself and how my life as a chiro student integrates with my work as a receptionist.

So let’s begin where it first started. I was a young girl studying my second year of A levels in the sciences, set to do medicine. All my life I had wanted to be a doctor or a healer but there was something about all the pill-popping so common in the West that didn’t quite sit right with me. I didn’t really hear about any alternative or complementary therapies at the time but I knew there must have been a whole other world of medicine that didn’t include popping a pill. I found out about chiropractic during a career fair at school. I was fascinated by the hands-on approach of the chiropractors. This was exactly what I was looking for – these were the people healing with their hands! That day I went home and researched as much as I could about chiropractic and the path I had to take to study it. I emailed as many chiropractic clinics as I could to do shadowing and I soon found myself working at a busy chiropractic clinic. A year later, after my first semester at Chiro school, I realised that I had a special interest in paediatric and pregnancy care and that I wanted to work within a clinic that was more suited to my interests. This is when I applied for a job here, at Chiropractic By Hand.

Enrolling at Chiropractic school has been the best decision I have ever made. I love learning about how the body functions and how I can help other people to get well and thrive in their body. Although almost half of my chiropractic school life has been online due to Covid, I have still thoroughly enjoyed it. We have now been allowed to return to study our practical classes from the new year. Just as our wonderful chiropractors, we also have to wear PPE and we have been put in bubbles to allow for social distancing. I’m really enjoying the smaller class sizes as you get more help with technique. I am looking forward to learning even more about the body and hopefully soon start treating patients myself!

I receive regular treatments from the chiropractors at CBH. For the longest time, I have had problems with my hips and pelvis as well as my neck due to sitting at my desk, studying. I have been seeing Lauren for the past 5 months and I love the way my body is feeling! With the help of Lauren, I was able to reduce my pain and improve my posture and I have not had much pain since seeing her. I love the fact that chiropractic treatment is so quick yet so effective, and a bonus of working on reception means I can easily book in for a treatment when there is a gap in the diary!
